Nitrate Rich Vegetable Juice Recipe
NITRATE RICH VEGETABLE JUICE RECIPE
In our beetroot juice article we discussed the blood pressure lowering effects of nitrate-rich vegetables. The study specifically looked at 250 ml per day of beetroot juice; a vegetable that naturally contains nitrates. Nitrates promote the production of nitric oxide; a vasodilator that has been shown to lower blood pressure and may improve athletic performance according to this study.
The two main ingredients that we are using for the nitrate-rich juice are beetroot and Rocket (aragula). Rocket contains one of the highest known amounts of dietary nitrates amongst vegetables. We will also add some celery, cucumber and some apple or lemon for taste. If you want the best results, we suggest to use a cold press juicer to extract the most nutrients.
Ingredients
- 2 medium beetroot
- 1 cup of rocket lettuce
- 1 celery stick
- 2 inches of cucumber
- ½ an apple (alternatively use half a lemon)
Preparation
Using a cold press juicer, juice all ingredients together and add ice to serve. If using a centrifugal juice pack the green down tightly as the juice yield will be significantly lower.
